Plymouth Could Become 51st State of the USA in 2026, Trump Says

Washington DC, 0100 hrs Eastern Standard Time

In a surprise announcement from the White House early this morning US President Donald Trump announced plans to claim Plymouth and make it part of the USA.

Trump, who has previously talked about annexing Canada and Greenland, reportedly said his claim for part of the UK is “watertight”.

He plans to discuss the matter with King Charles during his state visit later this year and could sign an executive order to “subsume” the area into the US “as soon as next year”.

“King Charles is a very, very good friend of mine,” President Trump said.

“We’re going to talk, and I’m sure he’s going to see things my way. I think this is definitely going to happen. It’s going to be beautiful.”

Constitutional experts have been working frantically to scrutinise the President’s claim. Initial reports suggest it could be valid under a clause in the 1783 Treaty of Paris.

The treaty gave the newly formed USA legal rights to claim parts of the UK in return for settling the War of Independence. Previous US presidents have always been aware of the obscure clause but have hesitated to exercise it.

If proven, the claim could see Plymouth becoming the 51st state of the USA. Residents would be eligible to apply for a US passport and vote in future US presidential elections.

There could also be other changes. The dollar could be adopted as legal tender, driving would be on the right, while American public holidays could be added to the calendar.

Local resident Avril Loof, 41, told the News: “It could be a good thing. Petrol is a lot cheaper in the US and so are doughnuts. And I’ve always wanted to drive one of those really big pick-up trucks.

“I also really love the idea of having Thanksgiving Day too. Two big bank holidays and two turkeys every year. What’s not to like?”
