Even in London, where affordability is at its toughest, almost half of households (45.2%) still manage to get a foot on the ladder.
When you add it all up, that means millions of families across the country still see ownership as the foundation of their lives. From the 1.9 million owned households in the North West to the 2.5 million in the South East, the figures show how deeply embedded the aspiration is.
